The port of Alexandroupolis is one of the most important ports in all of Greece. It is the only large port of Thrace and is the most important commercial hub of the region. It accepts passenger, commercial, fishing and tourist boats. As the railway network of the Region is connected to the port of Alexandroupoli, there is the possibility of loading and unloading goods from ships to wagons and vice versa, at two piers.
The port of Alexandroupoli is connected by daily ferries to the island of Samothraki, while during the summer season there are also ferries to the islands of the North-East Aegean.
Its entrance has an opening of 155 meters, the minimum depth of the port of Alexandroupoli is 6.5 meters and it can accommodate ships up to 200 meters long. It is protected by two breakwaters, the southwest and the east.
