Port of Souda
Info
The port of Souda is located in the bay of the same name and is the main port of Chania. It is approximately 6.5 km from the center of the city, which is connected with frequent routes of city buses and K.T.E.L. buses. The airport of Chania is also nearby.
At the port of Souda, ships arrive daily from Piraeus, with which the connection is frequent anyway, while during the tourist season the coastal ferry routes multiply.
The route varies in duration, depending on the type of ship.
Apart from the ships of the line, however, the port of Souda is also an important station for cruise ships plying the Mediterranean.
The port of Souda also serves commercial purposes, while a large volume of the prefecture's agricultural production, in olive oil and vegetables, is traded from here. It is considered one of the most important ports of the Eastern Mediterranean, as due to the position of Crete, it is located on the "passage" of ships from the Suez Canal to the Western Mediterranean and the Atlantic.
At the northern edge of the port of Souda is the Naval Station and the facilities of the American Navy, in front of which the passage of ships is prohibited.
The port of Souda is one of the safest ports in the Mediterranean, it has all the necessary facilities and services, while there is also a fuel supply station for yachts, boats and sailboats.
